It’s about working it out with you, exactly what you want, in order for you to continue to enjoy life yet retain your independence. That’s important to us, too.
If you think – This is my decision - If I get a little bit of support now, this will not only allow me to be more independent in other areas but also to allow me to protect my independence for longer. That’s important to us, too.
There are a number of ways that we can work with you and these are just some, to give you an idea, but honestly, it’s about you and what you want. Our staff are trained to respect you, support you with dignity and promote your independence and consider your confidentiality at all times.
If you have a problem communicating easily, we’ll decide how to deal with this (e.g. we have such things as a communication passport, where we write down, or the family writes down good ideas and ways to communicate in order for staff to work effectively with you).
Assistance to get you up, put you to bed...
If you are finding it challenging to get up in the mornings, get to the bathroom, get downstairs, move to your favourite chair and get to bed.
We can help with this. You may just lack a little bit of confidence after an operation and we can be there and provide re-assurance, or a little support, or you may need assistance or support to get you in/out of bed and get you around using turn-aids, hoists, movement aids, commodes and wheelchairs.
Our staff are trained to assist you with all types of equipment and will help to the level required – we want to support you, not take over. Your independence is important.
We can assist you with a full range incontinence problems, using and recommending appropriate products, where necessary. Our staff are trained in the use of all commonly used products.
Showering, Bathing, Skin Care, Dressing and Grooming…
You may need some assistance in getting yourself ready for the day. We can work together with you, to decide how little or how much support you need and how you want it done. We can assist with showers, baths (including bed baths) or strip-washes. Staff are trained to assist you safely.
Care staff are trained to identify and advise skin abnormalities and help prevent the development of pressure sores and skin breakdown and use moisturisers and creams as a treatment or prevention.
In terms of dressing, we can help in any way and respect that you should have choice when deciding what to wear, how you want to dress and what level of assistance you’d like.
Whatever your grooming needs are we can assist with hair, makeup and other needs to suit your requirements.
